About the Shamwari Club

At the beginning of 2002 a number of Rhodesian Associations came together and formed the Rhodesian Combined Association. Partners in this venture were RASA Durban the BSAP Association of Natal the SAS Regimental Association of Southern Africa the Rhodesian Army Association and the Airforce Association. All parties agreed to the establishment of a trust that would serve as a fundraising platform to raise funds for our elderly and for those Rhodesians of whom as a result of circumstances beyond their control had fallen on hard times. The trust would also investigate the viability of establishing a common meeting place for all Rhodesians in our area.

In April 2002 the Shamwari Trust was formed and was registered as a legal entity with it's primary function to raise funds and we would like to appeal to Rhodesians throughout the world to support us in our efforts, as we in Natal, "The last outpost" have a high number of Rhodesians who left to settle in South Africa in the eighties.

In June 2002 the trustees were approached by the German community in Durban with a view to take over the running of their club situated centrally and within five minutes of all freeways leading to and from the centre of Durban. Their club had become run down and they were looking for someone to run the entire operation and as hoped, provide a central meeting place for both communities.

The Shamwari Trust investigated the financial implications and came up with a business plan that hopefully should see the newly formed Shamwari Club realise profits in the not to distant future. Of importance is that profits raised from this venture are to be donated to the Shamwari Trust and would then be distributed to the needy in our Rhodesian community.

The Shamwari Trust and the Shamwari Club have found themselves in a unique situation and we hope that the efforts of these two organisations, in the future, will be the envy of other Rhodesian organisations throughout the world. I would personally like to appeal to all Rhodesian's throughout the world to support us by way of donation either to the Shamwari Trust or to the Shamwari Club. Should you as a Rhodesian wish to contribute to this venture, please contact Shamwari Trust Chairperson Eddie DeBeer at edebeer@iafrica.com for further details.
